Signs of Asthma
Asthma is a constriction or obstruction of the bronchial tubes which blocks the airway to your lungs. It can be caused by inflammation or can be a reaction to certain stimuli or antigen (something to which you are allergic). These triggers include viral infection, bacterial infection, air pollution, allergic reaction, occupational exposure, emotional stimulation, exercise, and in some adults gastroesophageal reflux.
The symptoms associated with asthma are often reported as dry cough, shortness of breath, chest tightness and pressure, and sometimes chest pain. Mild asthma attacks are common and usually go away within a few minutes to a few hours.
Asthma is the most common chronic disease in children. It affects 3 – 4% of the population. Fifty percent of asthma sufferers get the disease before the age of 10. It usually improves by age 14 but 30% of people will have it all of their life. There is no cure but here are many treatment options available.
