Cough Allergies
Allergies can cause many symptoms including runny nose, sneezing, itchy eyes, and cough. Cough is necessary during an allergic reaction because it is the body’s way of protecting itself by expelling irritants. Let’s say you are cleaning a very dusty room, you may find yourself continuously coughing during the chore. The same is true for other types of allergies, especially those associated with air-born irritants such as pollen, dander, and mold.
Cough is also necessary to remove mucous and fluids that are common with allergic reactions. Many allergies trigger post nasal drip which occurs when excessive mucous produced by your sinus’ drips down the back of your throat. Your body’s natural reaction is to expel this fluid with a cough. These types of coughs can are quite persistent and tiring.
Cough medications can help to a degree with cough that is related to allergies. Your best bet however, is to avoid the allergens that are causing the cough to begin with. Be sure to avoid dust, smoke, pollen, dander, mold, and a variety of cleaning agents.
