   Bronchitis Symptoms
Bronchitis is defined as the inflammation of the lining of the bronchial tubes. Acute bronchitis, the most common form, runs a short course and there are many treatment options available. Check out the links here on our website for effective bronchitis relief.
Bronchitis Symptoms
Acute bronchitis is most often caused by a virus. The inflammatory process of bronchitis causes excess mucous production and its prominent feature is a dry, hacking cough. The cough often gets worse at night or when lying down. Cold exposure and movement can make the symptoms worse.
Several days of sputum production is common and can be accompanied by low fever and scattered wheezes. To treat acute bronchitis get plenty of rest, fluids, humid air, cough medication (with expectorants), and antibiotics (if the cause is bacterial). If symptoms persist, a chest x-ray may be advised to rule out more serious conditions such as pneumonia. If sputum is not clear, it is also advised to get a sputum culture to rule out other infections. Bronchitis is most common during the months of October through May. Your conditions should improve within one to three weeks. If they persist, see you doctor.
